Yuleba Fun Run sponsored by HealthX

HealthX would like to share with you that we are a proud sponsor of the Yuleba Fun Run.

Tom

The Yuleba Fun Run is being held on Saturday April 26 and is expecting over 300 competitors in different categories including the marathon, half marathon run/walk, 10km run/walk, 5km run/walk and the family 3km roll and stroll. Yuleba is a small town in the Maranoa region of South West Queensland – 420km west of Brisbane and 70km from Roma.

With HealthX being a sponsor, Director of HealthX, Derek Irwin and CEO of AWX Tom Strachan are looking forward to taking their tribe out to the west to show their support for the regional and rural areas.

The event raises money for the Help Kids Like Nick charity which provides support for people living with Wolf Hirschhorn Syndrome. WHS is a rare chromosome condition that causes severe developmental delays and a range of other birth defects.

Tom is especially excited, relishing in the thought of returning west again to test the Yuleba track. He will be able to compare this run to his other marathon achievements in the likes of Paris, Berlin and Boston. Tom grew up in Roma and remembers the thrill of running as a schoolboy in events in the region. His affinity with the bush later led him to work as a ringer in some remote areas of the north-west.

A desire to support rural and regional communities accelerated by his entrepreneurial spirit saw him establish AWX in 2000. AWX Group now has a portfolio of business units partnering with industries across civil construction, mining, agriculture, hospitality and health.

Since declaring its mission, HealthX employs nurses Australia-wide (including the Maranoa region) addressing the distribution problem by seconding nurses in regional communities and providing long term stability under a two year secondment program.

Event spokeswoman Alison Blacket said Mr Strachan’s passion for rural communities led to his commitment of HealthX as a sponsor of the fun run.

Both Tom and Derek want to do whatever they can to give back to the local communities.  Last year the event raised more than $70,000 for Help Kids Like Nick and this year they are aiming just as high!
